内容简介
People derive positive self-evaluations from personal, relational, and collective identities.Past research has mostly focused onindividuals’ evaluations ofpersonal and collective identity, with little research devoted to understanding relational self-esteem.In the research reviewed here, a scale was developed to measure relational self-esteem and the function of relational self-esteem in buffering anxiety and promoting psychological well-being was investigated. Study 1 provides evidence for the reliability and validity of the scale. In Study 2, relational self-esteem was found to serve as an anxiety buffer against the existential fear of death, and this buffering effect was found to be more salient among collectivists than individualists.Study 3 revealed that relational self-esteem may promote psychological well-being and serve as a mediator between social support and psychological well-being.Taken together, these studies provide unique and emerging findings regarding the development of a theory of relational self-esteem.
