Werner Sommer教授早年毕业于德国维尔茨堡大学，并在康斯坦茨大学获得心理学博士学位，现为德国柏林洪堡大学心理学系教授。曾任德国洪堡大学心理系主任、认知冲突跨学科研究中心主任。一直致力于生物心理学、心理物理学的研究，是国际顶尖ERP研究专家，其研究兴趣主要包括认知心理生理学（脑电的心理学意义）、面孔加工、语言加工、双任务加工及反应准备等领域。在国际重要学术杂志发表论文二百余篇，主持各级各类项目经费约350万欧元。

讲座摘要：
Fast and accurate processing of faces (person identity, emotion, speech movements, gender, attractiveness) is essential for human communication and interaction. Although much work has been done on the general processes and mechanisms of this astonishing human ability, there is much less research on the large differences between individual humans. In my presentation I will first explain cognitive models of face processing and the neural underpinnings derived from experimental and clinical work. Then I will turn to individual differences in face cognition with a focus on how our research with event-related brain potentials has contributed to elucidate the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms. Ongoing work is following up on a puzzling but consistent finding, namely the contrast between finding domain-specific abilities in accuracy (power) tasks and domain-general abilities in speed tasks.
